The Very Beginning: A Girl, A Blog, and Some Big Hairy Business Goals

Open up your mouth and let the word rest on your tongue for a minute: freedom. Freedom to do what you want, when you want to, how you wish to do it. I realized that my frustration with life centered around not having enough freedom to do the things I wanted to do.

It’s in small changes, when you think about it: how many of you reading this have put off important events in your personal life, because you didn’t have “vacation days” (what kind of concept is that? You have to plead, beg, “cash in” time just to be out of the office?) to do them? I have, and it occurred to me that I really need to change that in order to enjoy life.

Just starting out here: twentysomething, working as a customer service rep for a cell phone company that treats me fair enough as an employee, but has made it clear that my place certainly isn’t at the top. Funny how a little chit-chat at the water cooler makes all the difference in those starting salaries, eh?

So the thought should be getting paid, trying to come up with a way to make as much money as possible while avoiding the office. In fantasy land, this may work out, but in reality, getting money is easy. Making money is easy. After all, you end up with a shiny check worth $$$$ every two weeks as long as you show up, right?

In essence, it’s really not about getting paid, but staying paid. I plan in the next few days, weeks, months, years to do just that — escaping the office, one step at a time, and getting the freedom that I crave.

It’s all coming onto this page — every step, every mistake. My name is Isabella Murphy, and I’m just trying to stay paid. How ’bout you?
