Oh, Weather: The Choice Every Employee Has To Make

Posted on February 12th, 2008 in Rant, balance, life, work

It’s a gloriously chilly day outside, and I can already see that the weather system is working on coming back at us with another winter blast. Being the good employee I am (for the time being; the entire point of this blog is fleeing the cube), I call our Bad Weather Line and listen to the smiling-happy-friendly voice on the other end.

“We are open business as usual! Drive with EXTREME CAUTION!” My brain quietly whispers, “They’re kidding, right?” I sigh, get up, and get ready to go out into the cold scraper in hand.

It’s a choice that I’m tired of making: do I stay home, safe and sound, or do I venture out just to make barely enough to make the trip worthwhile? If I call in due to the weather, there will be reprecussions later. If I go in, I risk the obvious (I get off late at night, when the weather will most likely be worse than when it was). What’s an employee to do? What would you do? If you choose to go in, do you attempt to go early?

It’s times like this that make me realize that a life of creating income can be done remotely, through my computer, where it’s nice and warm and you don’t have to put $1.25 in the machine to get a soda. Now that’s a way to fight the weather.

I have a couple of tips on this, but the car’s running, time to scrape off the ice and get ready for the day. We’ll get there, folks! Stay tuned and stay paid!
